Elwood

Here’s the news you’ve all been waiting for. Elwood is a male yellow Labrador Retriever. He’s not a big dog. At the moment he is laying quietly under the computer desk. He hasn’t decided to like me yet. I’m okay when I bring food. He will be quite affectionate. When he forgets he doesn’t like me, he jumps in my lap and kisses me. Then he remembers he doesn’t like me, gets down and watches the door, hoping our instructor will come.

Weekly Message - Working

I shared this message with The Judson Fellowship: An [[https:/www.abc-usa.org][American Baptist Church]] and member of the [[https:/www.wabaptists.org][Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists]] this morning in Jamestown, New York. Biblical texts for today: Psalm 66; John 14:8-14. In the name of Jesus. Amen. Can you believe it? Can you really believe it? Jesus says to us today: “Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to [God] (John 14:12 NRSV). ...

I’ll add the headers later so this post actually works! Right now I want to see if Vim works in the terminal on stormux. I was having a lot of trouble but maybe that has changed. I will probably use Vim more in the console than in the terminal, but it’s nice to think it will behave from now on.

Everyone'ss A Critic

You might think that, being blind, I have no interest in paintings or other forms of visual art. You would be wrong about that. I’m fascinated by art and what other people bring to the pictures. Last year people at the “Stations of the Windows” Friday Lenten worship services at[[https:/stlukesjamestown.org][St. Luke’s Jamestown]]described the stained glass windows. They were so enthusiastic it grew dark before we could finish the window descriptions and the service. ...

Brilliant

I’ve been using text mode to write these blog entries. Additionally, I have been using [[http:/www.daringfireball.netprojectsmarkdown][markdown]] to format them. As I do not have markdown enabled yet in emacspeak and because I am unable to install pandoc on the pi, I’ve been copying them to my Vinux machine for processing and posting. I’ve discovered how to create a web page and convert it to html. This post is a test case. ...

A Quiet Sunday with Emacspeak

*** Introduction When the Windows Subsystem for Linux first came online, I installed it immediately. Using a native Windows screen reader on a Linux system is not ideal. Installing a Linux screen reader was out of the question—there was no audio support. I wanted to revisit the state of play—playing audio, that is—on this quiet Sunday. I had nothing planned, and my ride to church fell through due to illness. ...

A Spirit of Cowardice

I have sought various ways to be connected to Jesus. Prayer lists. Devotionals. Prayer beads. Journals. Reminders. Meditation. Meditation groups. None of these work particularly well for me. Recently I have subscribed to a verse of the day email. These can get quite boring and it is easy to read quickly, swipe and be done. The verse is almost immediately forgotten and I go on with my day. I am not a particularly consistent journaler or blogger. That is easy enough to see. But I’ve decided to try again and write a little on the verse of the day as I am able and see if it can become more habitual. ...

A Walk in the Park with Nick

Nick and I walked to catch a direct bus home from my salon appointment. It was a nice day and catching the bus near the salon would have required several complicated street crossings and a bus transfer. I had trouble connecting with my GPS. In the end, I think I hadn’t turned on my remote for my hearing aids. As a result, I was not fully engaged with exactly where we were. Nick was so excited to go down new streets. He became impatient with all my stopping and fiddling with technology. ...

Computer Archeology

I am reconstituting this blog with posts that date back twenty years. It’s a daunting task but also amusing, boring, delightful and surprising all at the same time. Today I found an outline of an ebook I started to write on orgmode. I don’t have all the files for it, but I want to find what I have and relearn how to use this powerful mode again. The best I can do is have a tag page for it!.I may need to update the files as I will definitely get a chance to find out how well I described what to do.

Great Day

Today is a great day for Nick and me. First of all, we have been together for five years now. Our anniversary was a few days ago, but I’m writing about it now. Nick and I had a rocky start, but we have been loyal to one another through it all. Today is an especially wonderful day because we finally got out on a walk together. For the past two weeks or so I have struggled with unhealthy air quality and high levels of grass pollen. Today air quality was in the good range and the pollen counts were low for grass, tree and ragweed. So off we went for our usual daily walk. ...
